Memories

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
2 Corinthians 13:14

Things about our year in Kenya that we will surely miss ...

Seeing the lavender Jacaronda trees blow back and forth in the wind.

Learning Kiswahili and many things about African culture from our friend Edward.

Helping to support young women as they learn to sew.

Enjoying gelato in a coastal village on the Indian Ocean.

Watching the sun come up over the ridge behind Kijabe.

Greeting the nurses on Salome every morning.

Teaching and learning from Kenyan interns as they grow in competence and confidence through the year.

Living without television, junk mail and yard work.

Walking the guard trail around RVA.

Caring for patients unhindered by insurance companies, government regulation, and computers.

Bargaining for crafts at the Maasai Market.

Reading lots of good books.

Buying Kathy twenty roses for $2.00.

Taking people up Mt Longonot who have never been there before.

Helping John deliver food each month to widows in Old Kijabe Town.

Gazing at the Southern Cross, Scorpio, and the southern Milky Way on a cloudless night.

Buying eggs from Boniface, grapes from Stephen, somosas from Rachel, and fresh English muffins from Esther.

Singing in Kiswahili with the hospital staff at Wednesday morning chapel.

Making new friends.

Walking up the hill to worship on Sunday morning, with friends joining us along the way.

Singing "I'm A Soldier In The Army Of The Lord" as the children leave for Sunday School.

Having a picnic at the RVA rugby field, overlooking the Rift Valley on a sunny afternoon.

Stopping to shake hands and greet each Kenyan that we meet.

Picking out produce from Jean and the other ladies at the vegetable market.

Watching the sun rise and set on Mt. Longonot.

Hearing the wind shake the house at night, making the walls and floors creak.

Watching monkeys and baboons play in the forest.

Enjoying lunch with friends at Village Market.

Getting a big hug from Maggie every time we visit Amani Ya Juu.

Warming ourselves by the fire an a cold, wet evening.

Being amazed again and again at the wonderful wildlife of Kenya.

Enjoying the bright red and green of poinsettias all year long.

Walking everywhere.

Having time.

Saying the grace.
