Terri's been a good friend of Kathy's since they were in high schoo
l. She lived in southeast Alaska when we lived in Bethel, and we used to meet up in Anchorage. So it was fun when she told us she wanted to visit Kijabe while she was on spring break from teaching in San Diego.Armed with face painting supplies, and a large number of thin balloons for sculpting, Terri brought smiles to some of the children on the peds ward at the hospital.

While she was here, Lu arrived from Germany. As a high school student, Lu had lived with us for a year, and she now studies at a university in Munich. It was wonderful to see her again! We took Lu and Terri to Lake Nakuru National Park to see the wildlife and beautiful African scenery.
After Lu left, Tina came (both of them delayed a week or so by the volcano!). Tina grew up across the street from us, and we consider her like a daughter. She's dived into life in Kijabe, tutoring some Kenyan boys, going out to AIDS relief clinics in the villages, working in the hospital pharmacy, and making a lot of new friends. S
he's on safari to Maasai Mara this weekend, and flies back to the US on Monday.Next Friday, Mary's roommate Meghan arrives for a three week stay. Meghan just finished nursing school, and is interested in nursing in the third world. I've arranged with the Matron for Meghan to observe and help out on the peds ward, and maybe other departments at the hospital. We look forward to having Meghan here!
I took both Lu and Tina up Mt Longonot, and I hope that Meghan can go with me while she's here. We'll take her on a trip to see the wildlife, too.

These are all lovely, mature young women, and we have enjoyed having them stay in our home.

Oh, Kathy! So fun that you got to have friends come and visit! I wondered if Bunny was going to find a way to get over there while you were gone. We're in the middle of "phone tag" now getting a tea date on our calendars. Though we have enjoyed time out this year, we are having a slow time getting to a place in Bothell that we decided to get to...eventually. :) Will see you soooon! I sent an email to you tonight about our friends, Bob and Jane Sturm...who are new missionaries in Ethiopia. Their son, Matt, had surgery in Kijabe...and we wondered if it was at your hospital there. ?
